Concept of open spaces – schoolyard ‘ Um Weier’, Sandweiler
Presentation and planning process

Participation is the basis of any social learning and responsible relationship with the environment. In Sandweiler, this participation was presented in the reconfiguration of the schoolyard by organising a planning workshop with the pupils, representatives of the parents and teachers. On this basis, we could develop the creation of the new schoolyard concept.

During our presentation, which served only as an orientation for the discussion, we explained the topic and illustrated the requirements of a modern schoolyard configuration. We answered a lot of questions of the young public and then provided the pupils with a multitude of suggestions in the creative process.

The classes took up the topic in an individual way with their teachers to develop lovely drawings and the models of their schoolyard ideas. A school exposition presented the projects to all interested parties and promoted a multi-dimensional exchange of ideas.

Each project was examined for its qualities. The quality characteristics were collected, classified evaluated and discussed in forum with the representatives of all concerned groups. The result was a quality programme for the future schoolyard.

The programme qualities are now vital to our project for the concept of open spaces of the schoolyard ‘ Um Weier’.
